You need a job offer from a UK employer with a valid sponsor licence, a Certificate of Sponsorship (CoS), the role must be at skill level RQF3+ (A-level equivalent), meet minimum salary thresholds, and demonstrate English language ability. You must score 70 points total under the points-based

From 22 July 2025, the general minimum salary increased to £41,700 per year (up from £38,700) and £17.13 per hour, or the 'going rate' for your occupation, whichever is higher. Lower thresholds apply for certain circumstances: £37,500 for non-STEM PhD holders, and £33,400 for STEM PhD holders, new entrants, or Immigration Salary List roles.

 

You need 70 points total: 50 mandatory points (job offer from approved sponsor, appropriate skill level, English language) plus 20 tradeable points (usually salary level). We'll assess your specific situation and calculate your points eligibility.

This depends on your occupation level and route. Workers in RQF6+ roles (graduate level) can bring spouse/partner and children under 18 as dependants with full work and study rights. However, workers in certain RQF3-5 occupations (including care workers and senior care workers) cannot bring dependants. Exceptions apply for dependent children born in the UK or where you have sole parental responsibility.

Skilled Worker visas are typically granted for up to 5 years, or the length of your job plus 14 days, whichever is shorter. You can extend the visa if you continue to meet requirements and can apply for ILR after 5 years of continuous residence.

From 22 July 2025, eligible occupations must be at skill level RQF6 (graduate level) or above. This removed over 100 previously eligible RQF3-5 level occupations. Some RQF3-5 roles remain available through the Immigration Salary List or Temporary Shortage List with additional requirements. We'll check current eligibility for your specific role.

You must demonstrate English speaking, listening, reading, and writing at B1 level (intermediate). This can be through an approved test, academic qualification taught in English, or being from a majority English-speaking country. We'll advise on the best option for your circumstances.

 

You can change jobs but need a new Certificate of Sponsorship from your new employer and may need to apply to update your visa. Certain job changes require full new applications. We'll guide you through job change procedures and requirements.
